{"id":436,"date":"2014-10-23T04:58:58","date_gmt":"2014-10-23T04:58:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/billriggs.name\/uncategorized\/robertreich-berkeley-vs-big-soda-i-got-a-call\/"},"modified":"2014-10-23T04:58:58","modified_gmt":"2014-10-23T04:58:58","slug":"robertreich-berkeley-vs-big-soda-i-got-a-call","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/williamriggs.com\/?p=436","title":{"rendered":"Untitled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"tumblr_blog\" href=\"http:\/\/robertreich.org\/post\/100715576485\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">robertreich<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong> Berkeley vs. Big Soda<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I got a call the other day from a stooge of Big Soda who was doing a \u201cpush poll\u201d \u2014 trying to get me and all my neighbors to vote against Berkeley\u2019s proposed one-cent-per-ounce tax on sugary soft drinks. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Big Soda is pulling out all the stops \u2014 and the money \u2014 to prevent the tax, because Big Soda knows that if it fails in Berkeley it can\u2019t pass anywhere. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Yet, just like tobacco, we know a small tax reduces consumption. And just like tobacco, consumption of sugary soft drinks is a huge health problem. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">One out of three American kids is obese and at risk of early-onset diabetes. A major culprit is Big Soda. <\/p>\n<p>Isn\u2019t it time the people stood up against corporate moneyed interests that are determined to prevent us from protecting ourselves and our kids?
